"In case you dont keep up with the Kahvi netlabel, the
newest release is an absolute must-have. Finnish producer
Planet Boelex is the master of warmly chilled electronic
ambient idm, and each release keeps getting better and better.
the usual planet boelex devices are deftly employed here -
precisely syncopated percussion, endlessly deep bass, wandering
warbling pads, delay-soaked glitchy fx and soaring leads,
along with a new element - a track featuring vocals from chillout
songwriter Krister Linder.
I don't think i am exaggerating in saying, this is so far the best
netaudio release of 2007. i dont use such superlatives often, but
I have listened to this release practically nonstop since it
appeared, and it simply keeps getting better and better.
An absolute masterpiece of intelligent electronica." |

"The new Planet Boelex release "Suunta" is superb. The title
Suunta, meaning direction is aprapos. This is a positive direction
to be sure. Both melodic and with all the characteristics of the
Planet Boelex sound this release soars into the stratosphere.
The haunting and dreamlike atmospheres of the title track stay with
you and are unforgetable. This is a mature work from an ambient artist
that is redefining the genre. The sound quality as usual for Planet B.
is excellent. The production values are quite evident as this obvious
labor of love shows. Highly recomended." "Suunta is one HELL of a pleasant surprise! It's exactly what I wanted to hear from him, exactly when I needed it the most. Meaning - 'Misplaced' is a hefty fine album, filled with gorgeous soundscapes and melodies, all in all the perfect album, but it was still just the beginning. Today when I listen to it, I can still hear it.there is more in PB, and 'Suunta' is that more, with a production that border genius. 'Suunta' is no doubt the best PB release to date. The production is perfect, with every sound getting just the right amount of weighting and personality. It contains sounds and emotions I thought were long gone, and touches parts of me that I never thought existed. The depth is simply second to none. It's one of those albums that just keeps floating and I can.t see myself getting bored of it. I am so glad the wait is finally over, and that he prevailed in more ways than one. I'm simply staggered by this. Impressive (again)." "This is one outstanding release. Seriously. It's worth burning to CD -- and that's my highest praise for the netaudio I listen to. Means it's worthy of permanent storage so it'll survive anything, because it needs to be listened to over and over again. Now, in years past, Planet Boelex has pretty much always been decent, full of good tunes that work for any weather, season, mood, and lighting level. In particular, the EPs of "Second Thoughts", "Misplaced", and "Sinking in the Soup" are particularly noteworthy. But I'm pleased to say that this release blows 'em all out of the water. The whole album is eminently listenable from start to finish. On repeat. Track 3 and 6 in particular got my attention. I actually listened to the whole album laying back, then immediately went for a few miles' walk today listening to it again, just to experience it with hot sunshine and the occasional cool breeze." |

"Planet Boelex here has release a gorgeous, soft,
often naive sounding set of songs that is a perfect
example of this anti-thesis of what alot of people
mistakenly believe to be IDM. Misplaced is one of the
better rhyhmic and melodic EPs to be released for quite
sometime through a netlabel, and what better place for it
than Monotonik? A blissful and melancholic listen that is
sure to stay in your headphones or speakers for quite
awhile. Highly recommended."
"Here are four songs that create a rich atmosphere in a short amount of time. Much of the rhythm comes from skillful use of delay, allowing the tracks to get by with just a touch of percussion. No need here to prop up weak material with overbearing beats. Download this for those times you want to just stare at the wall and reflect on stuff like what we are doing here or that girl you never asked out in the 8th grade..." |
| "Planet Boelex has found a delicate balance with this release.
the beats are chill, easy going, structured while still fresh
and mildly unpredictable. like many idm fans, for me the percussion
is really what makes or breaks a track in so many cases,
and this 3-track ep is full of clicky goodness in that regard. but much to Planet Boelex's credit, that's not the highlight of this release. while so many idm artists seem to concentrate almost exclusively on the drum work (thus creating the expectation for incredibly intricate drum work noted above), pb has put a serious amount of effort into the chromatic side of things." |
| "Some skilful work in the sound textures created. Nothing overrides anything
and everything works together seamlessly. The synths ride the percussion
perfectly with nothing jarring you. Overall I am highly impressed with this EP, from the sound quality/mixing to the actual structure and atmosphere of the tracks. If one wants a genre to append this to then I think it would have to be ambient. Well worth the download and time and I cannot wait to hear more. I am very interested to hear where and which direction any new Planet Boelex EP's/albums take." |
| "This is one of my favourite netlabel releases of recent months! Begins dark and forboding but soon evolves into something beautiful and atmospheric, full of unfolding vistas of vibrant, shimmering sounds. Planet Boelex strikes the perfect balance of peaceful ambience with just enough sparkle to stimulate your imagination and keep you going. the remix of 'Girl with butterfly wings' is a wonderful re-invention of an already excellent song. A perfect dreamy ending to this beautiful new release. I can't wait for more! Put this one at the top of your list!" |
